Metaverse is a realm of new opportunities, both for technology and business!

It is an innovative way to leverage the combined power of multiple cutting edge technologies to deliver value to people and business.

Technologies such as AR/VR/Mixed Reality; Sensing and Internet-of-Things; 5G, Cloud Clouding, Blockchain (and any other means of ultra-low latency communications and computing) have the potential to transform the manner in which people interact with the physical world; especially in Healthcare; Education; Travel and Tourism; Gaming; Industrial and Enterprise applications.

The IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter "Hack-the-Metaverse" is the first of its kind platform for students to experience the real deal: a week-long deep-dive Metaverse journey to understand the technology and applications; receive tutorials and training; take part in problem solving and idea demonstration via a hack-a-thon competition; and project showcase to industry professionals.

We invite you to submit your entries to the "Metaverse hack-a-thon".
The proposal should conform to the following guidelines:

  1. 1. The proposal should be written in a single column style/format and must not exceed 2 pages.
  2. 2. The proposal should contain the following points:
    1. a. What is the problem statement? You may choose from TWO options:
      1. i. You may choose your own problem statement in the metaverse application categories of: (a) Healthcare; (b) Education and Learning;(c) Travel and Tourism; (d) Industrial and Enterprise
      2. ii. You may choose the high level problem statements given in the website (under each application category) and make it more specific/detailed.
    2. b. Why is it an important problem to solve?
    3. c. How will you solve it? What is your proposed solution and approach?
    4. d. What resources (hardware / software) do you have to solve the problem?
    5. e. Team composition?
      1. i. Team members (max of 3) + 1 mentor (preferably your institute faculty)
      2. ii. It is mandatory that at-least one of the team member is a woman
      3. iii. One of the team members should be IEEE / IEEE CS members
      4. iv. Mention: (Name; Institute; Email Id; IEEE / IEEE CS membership number) of each of the team members
      5. v. Who is the Team Lead?
  3. 3. The proposal should be submitted as a PDF via the following submission portal:

  4. 4. Teams should make their submission under any one of the following Metaverse application categories:
    a. Healthcare
    b. Education and Training
    c. Travel and Tourism
    d. Industrial and Enterprise

Sample Problem Statements

You may choose the "high-level problem statements" given below and make it more specific/detailed while making the project proposal. You may also choose your own problem statement, as explained above.

  1. Healthcare

    1. ○ A holistic plug and play metaverse for mental wellness contents (a problem statement inspired by O/o PSA, GoI funded MANAS project).

  2. Education and Training

    1. ○ A digital circuits lab. Users should be able to use virtual components such as resistors, capacitors, etc. to build, test, and analyse circuits.
    2. ○ Any hands-on lab including physics and chemistry labs.
    3. ○ Immersive driving lab for driving practice in realistic setups.

  3. Travel and Tourism

    1. ○ Create an immersive experience from photographs clicked on a trip.
    2. ○ Immersive experience of tourist places based on public images.

  4. Industrial and Enterprise

    1. ○ Immersive factory floor setup for training of personnel.
    2. ○ Immersive meeting rooms for online meetings.
